Ice, glaciers and climate are the main themes of the exhibitions in the Norwegian Glacier Museum.
The museum is in Fjærland, on the south side of the Jostedal Glacier. It is an "activity museum" where you can perform your own experiments with 1000-year-old glacier ice. You can also watch Ivo Caprino’s panorama film of the Jostedalsbreen Ice Cap. The Ulltveit-Moe Climate Centre opened in July 2007 as part of the Glacier Museum. It offers a thrilling trip through climate from 4 billion years ago up to 2100.
The Museum opened in 1991 and was authorised as a national park visitor centre for the Jostedalsbreen Ice Cap in 1997. All the buildings are designed by the Norwegian architect, Sverre Fehn.
Purpose The aim of the Norwegian Glacier Museum is to collect, create and disseminate scientific and cultural-historical knowledge on snow, ice and glaciers. The museum is intended to satisfy the information requirements of those who know nothing about glaciers and those who are already very knowledgeable.
